Weapon

From RuneScape Classic Wiki

A Weapon is a wieldable item that players can use to inflict damage in combat with other players or monsters.

There are many different types of weapons in RuneScape Classic.

Melee Weapons

[edit | edit source]

Melee weapons are used in combat and cannot be used long-range. However, knives and spears can also be used for ranged attacks. All melee weapons are one-handed except for 2-handed swords and the Staff of Iban. When weapons are wielded, they will give WeaponAim and WeaponPower bonuses, and better weapons will give higher bonuses. These bonuses will allow the player to hit higher and more often when in combat.

Comparison to other weapons

[edit | edit source]

Ignoring special properties such as being the only weapon able to hurt a certain monster, or debuff effects:

  • The Silver Dagger & Stake are both weaker than the weakest conventional melee weapon, the Bronze Dagger, which has +4 aim and +4 power.
  • Dagger (Watchtower) has the same stats as an Iron Dagger.
  • Silverlight and the Faladian Knight's Sword both have the same stats as an Iron Long Sword.
  • Excalibur is equivalent to an Adamantite Short Sword.

Ranged Weapons

[edit | edit source]
When attacking with a ranged weapon, a green projectile travels towards the target.

Bows are made using the Fletching skill and are two-handed.

Crossbow

[edit | edit source]

Like bows, the crossbow fires ammo. However, instead of firing arrows, it shoots bolts. There are only two crossbows in RuneScape Classic, only one of which can be purchased at Lowe's Archery Store in Varrock. The other is the Phoenix crossbow, which can only be received from the Shield of Arrav quest, through trade with other players, or from a general store, if someone has recently sold one there. There is no known stat difference between these crossbows.

Arrows are made using the Smithing and Fletching skills. Bolts cannot be made by players.

Players cannot wield arrows. Having the arrows in the inventory while wielding a bow will allow the arrows to be fired. The higher leveled the arrows, the more damage they inflict against opponents. If a player has different arrow types, the stronger type of arrows will be used first. Arrows are slightly stronger than darts but weaker than throwing knives and spears.

Darts

[edit | edit source]

Darts are one-handed weapons made using the Smithing and Fletching skills after completing the Tourist Trap quest. The higher level the dart, the more damage it will inflict against opponents. Darts are slightly weaker than arrows.

Throwing knives

[edit | edit source]

All throwing knives except Black can be made using the Smithing skill. Throwing knives are one-handed and can also be used in melee combat. The higher level the knife, the more damage it will inflict against opponents. Throwing knives are slightly stronger than arrows. In order to use throwing knives, players must have the Attack level required to wield the metal the knife is made out of. Although black knives would normally require level 10 Attack, they have no skill requirements to use.

Spears

[edit | edit source]

Spears can only be obtained from various monsters. Like throwing knives, they are one-handed and can be used in both melee and ranged attacks. The higher level the spear, the more damage it will inflict against opponents. Spears provide the strongest ranged attack (damage) out of all options. Players must have the Attack level required to wield the metal the spear is made out of. However, poisoned spears have no skill level requirements.

Holy Water

[edit | edit source]

Holy water can be made after having gotten the Book of Binding and preferably whilst not having depleted the Shallow water from the Kharazi Jungle. It is used to weaken most type of demons, just like the Silverlight. On those monsters it behaves identical to throwing knives and darts. In order to use Holy Water, players must have made a certain amount of progress on the Legend's Quest, see the quest page for details.

Image Name Level
Holy Water Vial 25*

* Although Holy Water theoretically doesn't require a ranged level to use, since the Underground pass quest has a requirement of 25 ranged and is required for Legend's Quest, 25 Ranged is the effective minimum level for the item.

Staves

[edit | edit source]

While useable as melee weapons, staves are magical weapons that aid in the casting of spells. The exception to this is the Staff of Armadyl, which provides no magic bonuses. A higher magic bonus makes the player less likely to fail when casting a spell. Elemental staves can be used as a replacement for one of the four Elemental runes. Additionally, the spells Saradomin strike, Claws of Guthix, and Flames of Zamorak all require the staff of their respective god in order to be cast. Similarly, Iban blast requires the Staff of Iban in order to be cast.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Before 8 December 2001, players weren't forced to meet Attack level requirements to equip a melee weapon. If a player already had a weapon equipped from before this update that they didn't have the level requirement to wield, they kept wielding it until unequipped.[1]
