Summon demon was an early concept for a Summoning spell which was never released in RuneScape Classic. It would have been available at level 61 Magic, and consumed 10 Fire-Runes, 10 Earth-Runes, 10 Air-Runes and 1 Life-Rune when cast.

Existence in game files[edit | edit source]

Summon demon was never visible in the Spellbook, but was added to the game's internal cache files likely on 24 May 2001 (Update) when much of the modern Free-to-play spellbook was designed.[1]

The idea was abandoned in Classic with its removal from the game's internal cache files in late December 2001.[2] This was at the same time that much of the preparation for the upcoming release of Pay-to-play was also being done.

Implementation post-Classic[edit | edit source]

The first demon that a player could "Summon and control" would be the Demon butler released in RuneScape 2 with the Construction skill on 31 May 2006 (Update).

However, a more apt analogue of what was likely intended in Classic would finally be introduced in RuneScape 3 with the release of Binding contracts, on 30 March 2020 (Update). The demon from Binding contracts that looks most like a Demon in RuneScape Classic is the Binding contract for a Kal'gerion demon. The demons summoned in Binding contracts fight on your behalf similar to all other combat familiars in the Summoning skill, and as implied by the examine text of this unreleased spell in RuneScape Classic: "Summon a demon you control!"
