Life-Runes are unobtainable runes which were planned to be used for summoning spells, but the idea was eventually shelved. Summoning later returned as a skill with different mechanics in RuneScape 2.

The Life-Rune remains as an Unobtainable item in the client, but all spells using it were removed in December 2001. The spells were never visible in the spellbook, but existed in the data file "config", and could be made visible by editing the data file.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Even though life-runes were introduced into the cache extremely early on (possibly before release), when Pay-to-play was released over a year later, the Life-rune was updated to mark it as a members only item.
