Jonny the beard is a level 10 monster involved with the Shield of Arrav quest. He can be found wandering the ground floor of the blue moon inn in Varrock. Jonny the beard is a Black Arm Gang spy, and has a black beard as his name suggests. He wears blue pants and a black shirt. He has no dialogue and cannot be spoken with. Players may not move through the same tile as him unless he spawns on top of them or if the player has attacked him.

Players who wish to join the Phoenix Gang during the Shield of Arrav quest are tasked by Straven with killing Jonny in order to be initiated into the Gang. The purpose of this is for the player to prove themselves trustworthy and to retrieve the intelligence report which Jonny drops. This report must be brought back to Straven to join the Gang.

Some lower combat level players may struggle or outright fail to kill Jonny the Beard before they themselves are killed, however the intelligence report can be traded, which means that a stronger player could obtain and then trade the item to a weaker player, allowing them to progress in the quest without the need of food or risk of death.

• While talking to most NPCs without dialogue produces The X is not interested in talking, the message for Johnny is Johnny the beard is not interested in talking as a proper logged quest message.
