A comparison of standard and low detail mode.

Many players often wonder why when they press the F1 button whilst playing RuneScape Classic the screen suddenly becomes barred and darkened. RuneScape Classic uses scanline rendering to draw its graphics, and pressing F1 halves the amount of scalines it draws. The game does not use a graphics card to render polgyons (software rendering), thus this mode would enable slower CPUs to render the game at a faster, playable framerate.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • This feature was present in RuneScape on its release 4 January 2001. In fact, the option to press F1 to activate a lower-quality mode was a feature present in some of Andrew Gower's other games even before RuneScape was released.
