About me[edit | edit source]

Hi there! I am the current maintainer of the 3rd party client RSC+. In 2018, our client was used to gather over 4000 hours of recorded network data from the original server, which has directly contributed to improvements to this wiki. Years later, work is still needed to transcribe all the information recorded in those archives into the wiki.

I am a citizen of the United States of America, I have 1 (one) seal point Himalayan cat who looks exactly like this: Cat.png, a strong interest in retro computing, and my name is Tyler.

My favourite user on this wiki is <insert name here>. They've contributed so much, it's obvious they care a lot about RSC. If they were ever in town, I'd buy them a beer.  :-)

  • Xell Kharr had a great start for me on their user page. Most rows with question marks in them are from their work. Also helped in a couple cases to nail-down cache dates for lost mudclients.
  • Updates was a very helpful page, from which I copied most of the links to updates, and I was able to add some updates that Xell Kharr had missed.
  • Zorak plorak helped find some historic links, to help indicate mudclient versions for periods of time where mudclients were not archived.
  • Hlwys helped find some historic links, to help indicate mudclient versions for periods of time where mudclients were not archived.
  • Luis also helped find some historic information.
  • The RuneScape Archive project, which has had some success recovering previously lost RSC loaders, clients, and caches (particularly in the post-204 era).
  • Leta[1] maintained an excellent timeline for many years on the official RSC forums, which helped document RSC during the 2006+ era.
  • The rows with "Class/Var" indicated are rows that I've filled by looking inside historical jar files & decompiling parts of them to find which version of the cache files the client was programmed to work with.

Notes[edit | edit source]

Dates with exact hour & minute are not necessarily when the clients were RELEASED but rather, when a Jagex employee created the client jar file in final preparation of its release. It is the Date Modified attribute of class files inside each client's java archive. Usually, this time and date should be insignificantly different to when the client is actually released, but it is something to keep in mind, since they let some major updates sit for a day to test. The Date Modified is the EARLIEST that that client could have been released.

You may extrapolate that some mudclients in between known versions may have existed that were internal use only, but others may have been public & gotten lost.

On 2006-01-12 nearly 5000 RS-classic were accounts banned. There was another mass ban in September[1], but this would generally be the last time that such a magnitude of bots were banned in RS-Classic.

RuneScape Classic: The Final Countdown (Last of the regular re-openings, 2011-09-15)
Several server sided maintenance updates were done the next 5 years, but none required a mudclient.[1] They also fixed buggy behaviour with max item stacks per Glitch, around 2015-02-16.
This was the first version to require Java 6.

Jagex announced the upcoming closure of all RuneScape Classic servers on 2018-05-23, and they shut them down (a few hours prolonged) on 2018-08-06.
Jagex released "RuneScape Classic" merchandise[100] through Angels Scapes & backstreetmerch.com as part of the celebration of RuneScape's 20th anniversary on 2021-01-04. The 20th Anniversary event in OSRS was also very good and paid homage to Chuck, Thrander, a green Gnome child, and other Classic themes. However, it is worth noting that the RuneScape Classic logo used in the merch was actually the RuneScape logo used from 2004 to 2007 and is not the logo that was used in 2001 as described.
