Forums: Maple Grove > Consensus

I was recently looking through our and realized that there was none stating how discussions end. I am proposing to add a policy regarding consensus, and how it should supersede democracy. Yay or nay?

Discussion[edit source]

Support - As nom. Nex UndiqueTalk 00:53, January 23, 2011 (UTC)

Neutral - I am fine with consensus, but that does not mean it can supersede democracy, they are both in the same area. They both have there pros and cons, but that doesn't mean only one will be used. We are not the RuneScape Wiki, we don't have to have exactly what they do. There are wikis out there which use both, and they are doing find with it, fair in all. I support an addition of consensus, but in no way may democracy be put as a minority. --Sirnot1 03:53, January 23, 2011 (UTC)

So you want them to both be equal? Nex UndiqueTalk 03:59, January 23, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, but supporting this thread means that I support all your given statements, which I do not. --Sirnot1 04:00, January 23, 2011 (UTC)
You can't really have both consensus and democracy. Consensus is for the best represented argument and as Wikipedia states "is a decision that takes account of all the legitimate concerns raised". While democracy states that the idea supported by the most people wins. Nex UndiqueTalk 04:10, January 23, 2011 (UTC)
I don't really see the problem with having both. You can have an overall consensus that is supported/ in conjunction with a democratic vote/vote-based discussion. --Sirnot1 04:19, January 23, 2011 (UTC)
You can have a both if the best argument also has the most supporters, but they're not the same thing. While usually democracy fits into consensus, they're different. Voting wouldn't work for what we have. Nex UndiqueTalk 13:25, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - Due to inactivity. No consensus was reached so decisions will continue to follow standards similar to Wikipedia and the RuneScape wiki.
