|Released||4 January 2001 (Update)|
|Examine||It's a multi purpose cow|
Cows are monsters in RuneScape Classic often trained on by lower-leveled players, or fought for cow hide by higher levels. It is possible to milk cows, by using an empty bucket on any cow not being attacked by a player. From this, the player will obtain a Bucket of Milk, used for making cakes and also used during the Cook's Assistant quest. In the free-to-play version of RuneScape Classic, Cows were a very popular monster to fight, because making cow hides into leather armour was the fastest method of gaining crafting experience in the game. Even in the pay-to-play version, players would choose to train there due to their close vicinity to Lumbridge.
- Released on 4 January 2001, where they were only Dairy cows.
- Update on 23 June 2001 to make them attackable, giving cowhide, meat and bones. Their examine text, however, was still unchanged.
- Update on December 2001 of the examine, to accommodate introducing the modern dairy Cow.
- The modern dairy Cow was released in 27 February 2002 along with Zanaris.
