Capes are a piece of equipment which can be worn on characters' backs for cosmetic purposes in addition to a slight statistical advantage.
Basic capes were available in both free-to-play and pay-to-play RuneScape Classic. They are commonly used for clan identification, especially in the Wilderness. Basic capes can be dyed in a variety of colours, and can be obtained in various ways. For more information, see their specific pages.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Before the update on 8 December 2001, only three cape colours existed: red, black, and blue. Despite being the first cape available in the game, the red cape was purely FashionScape, as it didn't offer any armour bonuses before the December update . The black cape, dropped by highwaymen, used to give an armour bonus of +1 . The lower armour bonuses of the red and black capes made the blue cape the most prestigious one, as not only was it sold in the Champion's Store of the Champions' Guild, it also had an armour bonus of +2 .
